I’ve known I wanted to be a writer since I was 15 years old and taking a sophomore journalism class. My first bylines came from writing about wrestling for my high school paper and then later about a thrilling elevator installation in a building on my college campus for The Daily Collegian. Ancient history, both of these, but they still shaped my present and the past 18 years I have spent as a professional writer.

I Love (with a capital L) magazines. Holding a magazine in my hand and flipping through – from back to front, of course – gives me so much joy. Seeing my name in print on an article I wrote still makes me burst with as much pride as it did the first time I was published in national press – in Seventeen magazine in 1998, fulfilling in only the first year of my career the goal 15-year-old me set for myself in that high school journalism class. My magazine career has now spanned nearly two decades, writing for many national women’s magazines, including Woman’s Day, Ladies’ Home Journal, Redbook, SELF and Glamour, as well as regional magazines in my adopted home city of San Diego, including San Diego Magazine, San Diego Pets Magazine and About Town. I have a few choice words for those who say print is dead; for me, a glowing computer screen cannot replace the tangibility of a print publication.

Yet, here I sit, fulfilling the modern-day version of my Seventeen magazine goal: launching a website dedicated to my love of travel. This site has been years in the making and I’m excited to finally see it come to fruition. While I still get a buzz seeing my name in print, seeing my words and my photographs on my own website is just as thrilling. Writing about the wanderlust that drives me and hopefully encouraging readers to embark on their own adventures is a task I am eager to undertake.

Of course, I’m also available for freelance writing assignments and I would be thrilled to take on new work and tell new stories. See the sidebar for more information and reach out via email or through my Contact Me page.

Thank you for embarking on this journey with me. Adventure awaits…let’s go!
